The Town Council approved two items of particular interest to the business community. After a year of negotiations with stakeholders, the Council approved the multi-story signage text amendment which allows limited signage on second story buildings and top floor signage for three or more story buildings. The Chamber participated in the stakeholder meetings and supported the text amendment.

The annual System Development Fees were approved by the Council. While fees were increased it was a lower level than in the past few years. The Chamber supported the fees after seven months of evaluating projects and costs. The Chamber continues to support growth paying for new infrastructure needs related to that growth.

Council approved an approximate 3.5% increase in community development fees, as well as water, wastewater, reclaimed water, and solid waste rates at the May 22, 2007 Council meeting. The Chamber has worked with the Town to change policy of evaluating fees once a year instead of randomly throughout the year in order to provide a predictable fee schedule for those interested in building or expanding their business in Gilbert.

The Town Council agreed to hold a special election regarding the Vestar Development Agreement and the Commercial Zoning Case Z06-12-C. The Chamber supported the Town Council’s decision to uphold their development agreement for road work on the Vestar Project and to follow the Town’s General Plan designation of commercial land use at Greenfield and Germann. We will update you on both of these issues as we near the November election.
