Your Chamber of Commerce scored a big win for our small businesses this past week with the passage of a sign code amendment that will allow businesses to display an A-Frame sign. Thank you to all the members who were supportive and turned out for the late-night meetings with the Town Council!
The following restrictions are placed on the use of A-Frames signs.
- One sign per business location of 10,000 sq. ft. or less.
- Constructed of 1/2 inch, high density exterior grade compressed wood, such as Omega or Medium Density Overlay board.
- Constructed with a protective, water resistant coating which is impervious to weather conditions.
- Constructed with cut vinyl graphics and may contain zip tracks for changing of cut vinyl graphics.
- Of sufficient weight and durability to withstand wind gusts, storms, etc.
- Maintained in a professional manner free from chipping paint, cracks, gouges, loss of letters.
- Professionally made; 2 ft. x 3ft. sign with protective coating and vinyl lettering.
- Signs may be displayed during business hours only.
- May be placed in front of the business on the walkway as long as 4 ft. of the sidewalk is available for pedestrians.
- May be placed near the street (must be on the same side of the street as the business); 2 ft. or more from the curb; 30ft. from the driveway or intersection; must allow for 4 ft. of the sidewalk to be clear at all times.
- Signs must be spaced 20 ft. or more from each other. All signs will be in violation if the spacing is incorrect.
- No attachments or illumination is allowed

We cannot stress strongly enough the importance of businesses following the guidelines outlined above. If the Council feels the Town has become cluttered, businesses are continually disregarding the guidelines, or they receive many complaints they will revoke this amendment and A-Frames will become illegal.
The Chamber will work closely with the Town to get the word out to all businesses but we will need your help as well. Peer pressure will work wonders. Talk with your neighbors and work out any problems with placement. A few businesses that do not follow the rules could jeopardize this option for the entire community.
Please let us know how we can help you! Call the Chamber at 480-892-0056 for more info. We will placing this information on our website for your convenience.
Thanks for your continued support of the Gilbert Chamber of Commerce!
