“Christmas in July” Stocks United Food Bank Shelves During Slow Summer Months

“Christmas in July” is a program created in 2007 to help United Food Bank (UFB) stock our shelves during our slow summer months. Many may be surprised to learn that demand on food banks is greatest in the June – September timeframe.  Additionally, when school is out, thousands of Arizona children are not receiving free or reduced breakfast and lunch.  In an effort to ensure those in the East Valley and eastern counties of the state are fed during the summer, we’ve partnered with local chambers of commerce in Maricopa County, the Gilbert Chamber included, to host food drives and expose member businesses to this need.  Over the last 8 years, through the generosity of the chamber businesses that have participated in this program, we have provided nearly 600,000 meals to the hungry. On behalf of the UFB Board, thank you; and we hope you’ll join the fight to end hunger in our state this year too.
