GILBERT, Ariz. (May 2, 2013) – Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, a Dignity Health Member, added a new associate to its surgical team: the da Vinci® Si HD™ Surgical System. This robot sits on the cutting edge of medical technology and will provide the community with minimally invasive options to traditional surgical procedures.
“This piece of equipment provides a wealth of benefits to our staff and patients,” said Tim Bricker, president and CEO of Mercy Gilbert and Chandler Regional Medical Centers. “We are committed to advancing the level of medical care we provide and the implementation of this technology is a great example of that pledge.”
Da Vinci’s advanced level of technology takes surgery beyond the limits of the human hand. Procedures are still controlled by the surgeon whose capabilities are complemented by a robotic platform. With magnified, three-dimensional, high-definition views of the procedure site and superior visual clarity of tissue and anatomy, surgeons are able to direct the robot in executing precise movements.
The da Vinci® Si HD™ can be used for a multitude of procedures, including prostatectomy, hysterectomy, myomectomy and colorectal surgery.
Mercy Gilbert’s sister hospital, Chandler Regional Medical Center brought patients the da Vinci® Si HD™ system in 2010. Since then, the hospital has acquired a second robot and surgeons have performed more than 800 minimally invasive procedures and surgeries.

Gilbert Kicks-Off “Gilbert Feeding Families” Community Food Drive
The Town of Gilbert kicked-off the month-long "Gilbert Feeding Families" Community Food Drive with a bag-off competition between local, county, state and federal leaders. Albertsons, located on Lindsay and Warner Roads in Gilbert, hosted the competition between Gilbert Mayor John Lewis, Arizona State Representative Warren Petersen, County Supervisor Denny Barney, and Chuck Gray, District Director for Congressman Matt Salmon.
The 60-second friendly-competition signified the beginning of the annual food drive running from May 1st to May 31st. In 2012, Gilbert was able to collect over 40,000 meals for the United Food Bank. This year the goal is even higher as the community is being challenged to collect 50,000 meals.
“Gilbert is such a close-knit community and when faced with a challenge like this, I am confident that we can work together to help our neighbors in need,” said Mayor John Lewis.
All of the food donated will go directly to feeding the Gilbert community. The United Food Bank works with eight different Gilbert organizations to distribute more than 126,000 pounds of food annually to support their programs.
“We are honored to have the support from the Town of Gilbert and their residents in this month-long food drive,” said Bob Evans, President and CEO of United Food Bank. “May is the time when we are reminded of the long, harsh summer heat – which is also when our shelves run dry. Your generous contributions will help us keep food on our shelves so we can feed the hungry people of Gilbert and Arizona.”
Donation drop off sites will be located around town, including all of the fire stations, recreation centers, libraries, and Town Hall. If you or your business is interested in participating, visit http://www.gilbertaz.gov/feedingfamilies for more information.

MESA, Ariz. (April 9, 2013) – Most moms expect to receive flowers, chocolates or breakfast in bed for Mother’s Day, but what if you could give her something really meaningful this year? What if you could treat her to a potentially life-saving mammogram at Mountain Vista Medical Center?
On weekdays through May 2013, the hospital is offering a $75 breast cancer screening in honor of the day dedicated to Moms. This special price is available to all women. Mammograms can help detect tumors and increase the chances of a successful fight against breast cancer.
According to the American Cancer Society, nearly one in eight women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, and roughly 40,000 will die each year from the disease. While the American Cancer Society recommends an annual mammogram for women 40 and older, it is estimated 29 percent of insured women and 68 percent of uninsured women are not receiving an annual mammogram.
Mountain Vista Medical Center is located at 1301 S. Crimson Rd. in Mesa. Call 1-877-924-WELL (9355) for more information or to make an appointment for a digital mammogram. Please mention Mother’s Day Mammo Special when you call. A physician's order is required. Insurance will not be billed and the screening is not valid for patients with breast implants or pre-existing breast conditions.
